Sometimes our customers present us with translation projects for which computer-assisted translation tools are the ideal solution. Perhaps there’s a need to work quickly handling very large volumes, or to ensure that consistent terminology is used throughout the text. Maybe it’s simply essential to keep costs to a minimum. At other times, the project involves translating texts that the customer only needs to be able to understand at a very basic level.
Why wait longer and pay twice as much?
CAT tools detect identical or similar content that has already been translated and retrieve the matching translation from translation memories associated with projects we’ve completed for the customer in the past. These customer-specific memories enable us to leverage past translations, saving time and money and minimizing costs. Using computer-assisted translation tools enables us to speed up the translation process, as they “remind” us of all of the material that we’ve translated in the past. Repeated sentences are detected and the matching translation is retrieved from existing translation memories. If a customer has never worked with translation memories but can provide us with previous translations, we can align the content in the original and translated texts to create new memories.
We can also create glossaries from information provided by the customer to ensure that consistent terminology is used throughout the translation. Both translation memories and glossaries can be shared on the cloud in a secure environment, allowing the different teams involved in the project to access the information in real time. CAT tools also enable translators to work much more efficiently with a wide range of formats. Our tools are compatible with the TMX standard, making it easier to migrate from one CAT system to another and minimizing compatibility issues.
Speed and efficiency are essential in our day-to-day work, but we never lose sight of the importance of quality. Quality Assurance (QA) tools play a key role in all of our services. They allow us to detect errors that can go unnoticed by the human eye and to perform extremely thorough terminology and spelling checks. These tools (Xbench, etc.) enable us to ensure that translations produced with the help of CAT tools meet our stringent quality standards.
For a project to be a success, quality control is crucial. With this in mind, we use a number of systems that help us automatically detect any possible mistakes.
